Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The things everybody asks in their first week — seasons, roleplay, rentals, businesses, avatars, events, and everything in between.

Do you change seasons?

Yes! Fox Hollow changes with the seasons throughout the year. You can expect the community to transition through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, along with seasonal landscaping, decor, and events.

We love allowing the town to feel like it actually changes as the year goes on.

Are house swaps available?

Yes. If you are currently renting in Fox Hollow and another available home catches your eye, house swaps may be available.

Reach out to management and we will help determine availability and get you moved over.

Do you allow feral animal avatars?

Yes! Feral animal avatars are welcome in Fox Hollow.

However, feral characters are expected to behave as the animal they portray would reasonably behave within a modern, realistic setting. This means feral animals should not speak, communicate like humans, hold jobs, conduct business, or otherwise behave as human characters during public roleplay.

Normal animal behavior and interactions are absolutely welcome, whether you’re someone’s beloved pet, a stray wandering through town, a farm animal, or local wildlife.

We simply ask that feral avatars remain appropriate to the Fox Hollow setting and respect residents, private property, and ongoing roleplay.

Do you allow furry avatars?

Absolutely. Furry avatars are welcome throughout Fox Hollow.

We want residents to be able to enjoy Second Life in the avatar they are most comfortable using.

Do you allow supernatural roleplay?

Yes, within reason.

Fox Hollow is primarily a modern, realistic community, so we prefer supernatural roleplay to remain somewhat under wraps.

If your character is a vampire, witch, werewolf, supernatural creature, or something else entirely and you roleplay those storylines privately among your friends, family, or others who participate in supernatural RP, have at it!

We simply ask that supernatural elements do not suddenly become common public knowledge or begin affecting the entire community, particularly public-service roleplay involving the Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, EMS, government, and similar roles.

Think less “the entire town knows vampires exist” and more “something strange might be happening behind closed doors.”

Does Fox Hollow have weather?

Yes.

Fox Hollow does utilize weather systems, but we try to be considerate of resident performance and lag.

Rather than constantly running heavy weather effects across the entire community, we tend to focus more heavily on weather-related events and atmospheric changes.

You may see rain, storms, fog, snow, severe-weather roleplay, or other conditions throughout the year without your computer being forced to fight for its life every afternoon.

Is roleplay required?

No.

Fox Hollow is a residential and roleplay community.

You can participate heavily in roleplay, casually interact when you feel like it, attend events without roleplaying at all, or simply enjoy your home and the community.

We do ask residents to be respectful of roleplay happening around them, just as roleplayers should respect residents who are currently OOC.

What kind of roleplay happens in Fox Hollow?

Fox Hollow focuses primarily on modern, everyday community roleplay.

This can include:

  • Families and friendships
  • Dating and relationships
  • Local businesses
  • Sheriff’s Department
  • Fire and EMS
  • Government and civic services
  • Medical roleplay
  • Schools and children
  • Workplace roleplay
  • Crime and investigations
  • Community events
  • Everyday neighborhood life
  • Occasional larger town storylines

You are encouraged to build your own character and stories rather than feeling like you have to follow one predetermined community storyline.

Is Fox Hollow family friendly?

Yes.

Family roleplay is a large part of Fox Hollow, and child avatars are welcome.

We have spaces, businesses, events, and community areas designed with families in mind.

All residents and visitors are expected to follow Linden Lab’s rules regarding child avatars and age-related content.

Are pets allowed in rentals?

Yes.

Pets are welcome in Fox Hollow homes unless a particular rental specifically states otherwise.

Whether you have dogs, cats, horses, farm animals, or something a little less ordinary, we simply ask that animals and scripted pets remain reasonable for the property and do not create excessive lag.

Can I run a business in Fox Hollow?

Yes!

Businesses are an important part of the community.

Residents may rent commercial spaces, operate businesses, hire employees, host events, and incorporate their businesses into roleplay.

You do not have to be an experienced roleplayer to own a business.

Do businesses have to be staffed all the time?

No.

This is Second Life. We know everyone has real lives.

While we love seeing active businesses and encourage owners to open when they can, we do not expect someone to stand behind a virtual cash register twelve hours a day.

Scheduled openings, events, appointments, and spontaneous RP are all perfectly acceptable.

Can I work somewhere without owning a business?

Absolutely.

Businesses and public services throughout Fox Hollow may periodically hire employees.

Jobs can be completely roleplay-based or simply give your character another way to become involved in the community.

Keep an eye on community announcements and hiring notices.

Can I join the Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, EMS, or another public service?

Yes, when positions are available.

Public-service departments periodically recruit new members.

Some positions may require an application, orientation, training, or familiarity with Fox Hollow’s roleplay expectations.

You do not necessarily need years of roleplay experience. Being willing to learn, communicate, and create good scenes for others matters much more.

Can I create my own roleplay storylines?

Definitely.

Residents are encouraged to create their own stories.

Small personal and family storylines generally do not require approval.

Large storylines that would affect significant portions of Fox Hollow, damage public areas, involve major disasters, or substantially impact other residents should be discussed with management first.

Can I roleplay crime?

Yes.

Crime roleplay is welcome when it is reasonable, consensual, and gives everyone involved an opportunity to participate.

Minor crimes and spontaneous incidents can make great scenes.

Major crimes involving another resident, business, family, or property should be coordinated with those affected.

Please remember that Fox Hollow is a town, not a permanent active crime scene.

Can my character be injured or killed?

Your character can absolutely be injured if you choose to roleplay it.

Permanent character death is always your decision.

Another player cannot permanently kill, seriously alter, or permanently injure your character without your consent.

Are visitors welcome?

Of course!

You do not need to live in Fox Hollow to visit, shop, attend events, explore, meet residents, or participate in appropriate public roleplay.

Please respect residents’ private homes while exploring.

Can visitors roleplay here?

Yes.

Visitors are welcome to participate in public roleplay as long as they follow the same roleplay expectations as residents.

You do not have to rent property before becoming involved.

Can I enter someone’s house while exploring?

Please don’t enter occupied private residences without permission.

Fox Hollow may be a roleplay town, but someone’s rental is still their personal Second Life home.

Public buildings, stores, parks, community facilities, and other designated areas are open for exploration.

Are homes furnished?

This varies by rental.

Some Fox Hollow properties may include fixtures, landscaping, kitchens, bathrooms, or other built-in features while still leaving plenty of room for residents to decorate and make the property their own.

Rental information will indicate anything important about a particular property.

Can I decorate my rental however I want?

For the most part, yes!

Your home should feel like yours.

We simply ask that exterior changes remain appropriate for the property and overall Fox Hollow setting and that objects do not substantially interfere with neighbors, roads, public areas, or community performance.

Can I landscape my yard?

Generally, yes.

Residents are encouraged to personalize their properties within reason.

If you are planning something that significantly changes the exterior appearance of the property or requires major alterations, reach out to management first.

Can I have parties or gatherings at my house?

Absolutely.

Birthday parties, cookouts, family gatherings, holiday celebrations, sleepovers, weddings, and similar activities are all part of having a home here.

Just be considerate of your neighbors and avoid excessive scripted objects or anything that significantly disrupts nearby residents.

Do you host community events?

Yes!

Fox Hollow regularly hosts activities and community events.

These may include things like:

  • Bingo
  • Trivia
  • Meet & Greets
  • Holiday events
  • Seasonal festivals
  • Family activities
  • Contests
  • Community gatherings
  • Roleplay events
  • Special town storylines

Some events are RP-focused while others are simply an excuse to hang out and have fun.

Do I have to attend events?

Nope.

Come to everything, come to one thing a month, or spend the evening decorating your kitchen while everyone else screams over Bingo.

There is no attendance requirement.

Is voice chat required?

No.

Residents should never feel required to use voice.

Text chat and IMs are completely acceptable for socializing and roleplay.

Do I need a realistic avatar?

No.

Fox Hollow has a realistic modern setting, but we do not expect everyone’s avatar to look exactly like a real-world human.

Human, furry, feral, and other appropriate avatars are welcome.

For public roleplay, we simply ask that characters generally fit within the setting or keep unusual supernatural elements appropriately private.

Is Fox Hollow LGBTQ+ friendly?

Yes.

Fox Hollow welcomes LGBTQ+ residents, couples, families, characters, and visitors.

Everyone deserves to be able to enjoy the community without being harassed over who they are or who they love.

Do you allow adult content?

Fox Hollow is not designed as an adult-content community.

What adults choose to do privately inside their own homes should remain private and comply fully with Second Life’s Terms of Service and maturity guidelines.

Explicit sexual activity should not take place in public community areas.

Can I have an alternate character?

Yes.

Residents are welcome to use alternate characters for roleplay.

Please do not use alts to evade bans, manipulate storylines unfairly, harass others, or obtain information your other character would not reasonably know.

Can I own more than one property?

Generally, yes, depending on availability.

If you would like an additional residence, commercial space, or other rental, contact management.

What happens if I’m going away for a while?

Talk to us!

If you know you will be away from Second Life for an extended period and are concerned about your rental, reach out to management whenever possible.

Communication makes things much easier than disappearing and leaving us wondering whether a home has been abandoned.

Are refunds available on rentals?

Generally, rental payments are non-refundable.

Exceptions may be made when an issue is directly caused by Fox Hollow and management determines that a refund is appropriate.

What happens to abandoned rentals?

Rentals that appear abandoned for more than 72 hours, particularly properties containing very few personal objects or rentals marked as not renewing, may be reclaimed by management.

If something unusual is going on, please communicate with us.

Is there a dress code?

There is no general dress code for walking around Fox Hollow.

We simply ask that avatars remain appropriately covered in public spaces and dress reasonably for any specific RP position or event that requires it.

Walking into court in your pajamas might technically be allowed.

Whether the judge appreciates it is another matter.

Can I suggest an event, business, or community feature?

Please do!

Fox Hollow grows through the creativity of the people who live here.

If you have an idea for an event, community feature, roleplay storyline, business, club, activity, or something you think would make the town better, reach out to management.

Not every idea will be possible, but we are always happy to hear them.

Who do I contact if I have a problem?

If you have an issue involving your rental, another resident, roleplay, a community feature, or something around town, contact a member of Fox Hollow Management. This can be done by opening a support ticket in the Fox Hollow Discord or by contacting them inworld by using a staff panel in the Court House.

Whenever possible, provide enough information for us to understand what happened, including screenshots or chat logs if they are relevant.

Please remember that management exists to help maintain the community, not referee every disagreement between characters.

Are weapons allowed?

Yes, within reason.

Weapons used in Fox Hollow should be realistic and appropriate to a modern-day setting. Futuristic, sci-fi, fantasy, or otherwise unrealistic weapons should not be used in public roleplay.

Explosives are not permitted unless they are part of a planned and approved roleplay scene.

Firearms and other weapons should also be carried and used in a way that reasonably reflects North Carolina law within the roleplay setting. If your character chooses to carry, possess, or use a weapon unlawfully, you should expect appropriate IC consequences, including possible interaction with law enforcement.

Weapons may never be used as an excuse to grief, randomly attack, intimidate OOC players, or disrupt the community. All weapon-related scenes must still follow Fox Hollow’s rules regarding consent, fairness, and realistic roleplay.

IC actions still equal IC consequences.

What is Fox Hollow, really?

Fox Hollow is meant to be whatever part of Second Life you’re looking for.

For some people, it’s home.

For others, it’s a place to roleplay, run a business, raise a family, work a job, attend events, or spend an evening hanging out with friends.

You don’t have to participate in every part of Fox Hollow to belong here.

Find your corner of town and make yourself at home.
