Community Covenant

What you agree to when you rent, roleplay, or run a business in Fox Hollow. Subject to change as the community grows.

This covenant is a living document and subject to change. Major updates are announced in the Fox Hollow group and Discord.

Welcome to Fox Hollow

Fox Hollow is a family-friendly, realistic roleplay community located in a fictional North Carolina setting. Our goal is to provide a welcoming place where residents can create stories, build relationships, operate businesses, attend events, and enjoy everyday small-town life.

By entering Fox Hollow, participating in roleplay, joining an official community group, operating a business, or renting property within the community, you agree to follow this covenant.

These rules apply to residents, visitors, employees, business owners, department members, and guests.

Situations not specifically addressed within this covenant will be reviewed individually. Final decisions will be made by Fox Hollow Management and the Owner based on the circumstances involved and the best interests of the community.

1. GENERAL COMMUNITY STANDARDS

Fox Hollow is intended to be a friendly, inclusive, and enjoyable community.

Residents and visitors are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect.
  • Respect personal boundaries and privacy.
  • Communicate maturely when disagreements occur.
  • Follow instructions provided by Management.
  • Avoid behavior that intentionally disrupts the community.
  • Separate in-character conflict from out-of-character relationships.
  • Follow the Second Life Terms of Service and Community Standards.

Being part of Fox Hollow is a privilege, not a right. Management may remove any individual whose behavior is considered harmful, disruptive, unsafe, or damaging to the community.

Management reserves the right to update, clarify, or add to this covenant as needed.

2. FAMILY-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY

Fox Hollow is a family-friendly roleplay community.

Public areas must remain appropriate for a general audience and consistent with the rating of the region.

The following are not permitted in public areas:

  • Public sexual activity or sexual roleplay.
  • Explicit sexual conversations.
  • Excessive nudity.
  • Sexually suggestive furniture or animations.
  • Graphic or extreme violence outside an approved roleplay scene.
  • Offensive imagery, decorations, gestures, sounds, or displays.
  • Content involving sexual situations around child avatars.

Private adult activity must remain inside a private residence and must follow all applicable Second Life rules.

Adult content must never involve child avatars, age-play, or anyone presenting as a minor.

3. HARASSMENT AND DISCRIMINATION

Harassment of any kind is prohibited.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Bullying.
  • Threatening another resident.
  • Stalking or repeatedly following someone.
  • Unwanted sexual comments or advances.
  • Repeatedly contacting someone after being asked to stop.
  • Targeting someone because of their identity, background, disability, gender, race, religion, or orientation.
  • Spreading private information.
  • Encouraging others to isolate, attack, or harass another person.
  • Publicly humiliating or provoking someone for entertainment.
  • Using alternate accounts to continue unwanted contact.

Disagreements are expected to be handled privately and respectfully. Public arguments, callout posts, hostile group messages, and attempts to turn the community against another person may result in disciplinary action.

Blocking another person does not automatically remove either person from Fox Hollow. Residents are expected to use reasonable boundaries and avoid deliberately entering situations intended to create further conflict.

4. IN-CHARACTER AND OUT-OF-CHARACTER CONDUCT

In-character conflict must remain separate from out-of-character communication.

What happens during roleplay should not be used as an excuse to mistreat another player outside of roleplay.

Likewise, out-of-character disagreements should not be carried into roleplay for the purpose of punishing another character.

Residents may not:

  • Use roleplay to target someone they dislike out of character.
  • Harass another player because of their character’s actions.
  • Use private out-of-character information during roleplay.
  • Manipulate roleplay to force another player out of a home, job, business, department, or storyline.
  • Claim that harmful behavior is acceptable simply because it was in character.

In-character actions may have in-character consequences. However, consequences should be reasonable, proportional, and handled through appropriate roleplay channels.

5. ROLEPLAY EXPECTATIONS

Fox Hollow encourages realistic, cooperative, and story-driven roleplay.

Residents should give others a reasonable opportunity to participate and respond.

The following roleplay practices are prohibited:

Godmodding

Controlling another person’s character, actions, emotions, injuries, or outcome without permission.

Powergaming

Forcing an action or outcome on another player without allowing them a fair opportunity to respond.

Metagaming

Using information learned outside of roleplay as though your character discovered it in character.

Scene Interruption

Intentionally interrupting or derailing an active roleplay scene without a reasonable in-character purpose.

Unrealistic Roleplay

Ignoring injuries, consequences, laws, character limitations, or the established setting in a way that damages immersion.

Roleplay Avoidance

Leaving a scene solely to avoid reasonable consequences after choosing to participate in the events that caused them.

Players may step away from a scene if they feel uncomfortable. When possible, communicate out of character so the scene can be paused, adjusted, or concluded appropriately.

No one is required to participate in a storyline that makes them genuinely uncomfortable.

Management may pause, alter, or end any roleplay scene that is considered disruptive, inappropriate, unsafe, or damaging to the community.

6. REALISTIC CHARACTERS AND AVATARS

Fox Hollow is a realistic modern-day roleplay community.

Human and human-like avatars are permitted (including furry avatars). Avatars that are highly unrealistic, disruptive, excessively large, or incompatible with the community setting may be asked to change.

Fantasy creatures, monsters, supernatural powers, combat systems, biting systems, Bloodlines activity, or similar supernatural roleplay are not permitted unless specifically approved for a temporary community event.

Characters should fit within the modern small-town setting of Fox Hollow.

7. CHILD AND TEEN CHARACTERS

Child and teen avatars are permitted within Fox Hollow.

Minor characters must be portrayed in a realistic and age-appropriate manner. Their behavior, speech, independence, employment, relationships, and decision-making should reasonably reflect the age being portrayed.

Child and teen characters may not participate in:

  • Sexual roleplay.
  • Romantic or sexual relationships with adult characters.
  • Adult entertainment.
  • Graphic criminal activity without prior approval.
  • Unrealistic employment.
  • Adult-only venues or events.
  • Situations that violate Second Life policies regarding minor-presenting avatars.

Parents and guardians are responsible for including their children in roleplay and maintaining reasonable supervision.

Management may intervene when a minor character is being portrayed in a way that is excessively mature, sexualized, disruptive, or unrealistic.

8. RESIDENTIAL PRIVACY

Private residences are not public roleplay locations unless the tenant has invited others inside.

Do not enter another resident’s home, yard, enclosed property, or private rental space without permission.

This applies even when:

  • The door is unlocked.
  • The parcel is accessible.
  • No one appears to be home.
  • The property is being used for roleplay.
  • You are friends with the tenant.
  • You previously had permission to enter.

Emergency department roleplay involving private property should have a legitimate in-character reason and should be handled respectfully.

Residents may not repeatedly question, pressure, or bother tenants about their homes, rental availability, move-out plans, furnishings, or personal space.

9. RENTAL ELIGIBILITY

Management reserves the right to approve or deny any rental application.

Rentals may be denied based on:

  • Previous covenant violations.
  • Previous eviction from Fox Hollow.
  • Community bans.
  • Fraudulent information.
  • Repeated rental abandonment.
  • Harassment of residents or staff.
  • An account that appears to have been created for ban evasion.
  • Any other concern determined by Management or the Owner.

The person listed as the tenant is responsible for the property and everything placed on it.

Rentals may not be transferred, resold, or reassigned without Management approval.

10. RENTAL PAYMENTS

Rent must be paid through the approved Fox Hollow rental system.

Tenants are responsible for monitoring their rental time and ensuring payment is made before the rental expires.

Management is not responsible for:

  • Missed payment reminders.
  • Failure to receive an automated notice.
  • Incorrect payments made to another person or object.
  • Payments made outside of the approved rental system.
  • Rental time lost because of an eviction or covenant violation.
  • A tenant’s inability to access Second Life.

Tenants should contact Management as soon as possible if a rental system appears to be malfunctioning.

11. ABANDONED RENTALS

A rental may be considered abandoned when the property contains 50 prims or fewer.

Rentals that have been considered abandoned for more than 72 hours may be repossessed by Management.

A rental may also be repossessed when:

  • The rental has been marked Will Not Renew.
  • The tenant has informed Management that they are leaving.
  • The rental has expired.
  • The tenant has been removed from the community.
  • The property is being held without reasonable residential use.
  • The rental violates this covenant.
  • Management has determined that the tenant has abandoned the community.

Once a rental is repossessed, all remaining objects may be returned to their owners.

Fox Hollow is not responsible for lost inventory, broken object links, misplaced items, returned objects, or objects that do not appear correctly after being returned.

Tenants should collect important items before allowing a rental to expire or marking it Will Not Renew.

12. RENTAL REFUNDS

All rental payments are considered final.

Fox Hollow does not issue refunds for:

  • Voluntary move-outs.
  • Unused rental time.
  • Rental abandonment.
  • Evictions.
  • Bans or suspensions.
  • Covenant violations.
  • Personal disagreements.
  • Dissatisfaction with a property.
  • Dissatisfaction with the community.
  • Changes in personal availability.
  • Failure to use the rental.
  • Accidental overpayment caused by the tenant.
  • Leaving Second Life.
  • Technical issues outside of Fox Hollow’s control.

Refunds will only be considered when the loss of rental time was caused by a verified fault of the community.

Whether an issue qualifies as the fault of the community will be determined by Fox Hollow Managers and the Owner.

Submitting a refund request does not guarantee that a refund will be approved.

Management and the Owner have final authority over all refund decisions.

13. EVICTIONS

A tenant may be evicted for violating this covenant or creating an ongoing problem within the community.

Reasons for eviction may include:

  • Harassment.
  • Repeated disruptive behavior.
  • Failure to follow Management instructions.
  • Exceeding the property’s prim allowance.
  • Unauthorized structural changes.
  • Using the property for prohibited activity.
  • Repeatedly allowing disruptive guests onto the property.
  • Encroaching onto neighboring or public land.
  • Operating an unapproved business.
  • Abandoning the property.
  • Failing to maintain the property.
  • Ban evasion.
  • Serious roleplay or conduct violations.

Depending on the seriousness of the issue, Management may issue a warning before eviction. A warning is not guaranteed.

Severe violations may result in immediate eviction and removal from the community.

No refund will be issued following an eviction unless Management and the Owner determine that the eviction occurred because of an administrative error.

14. PROPERTY BOUNDARIES

All furniture, landscaping, decorations, vehicles, pets, signs, and other objects must remain within the boundaries of the tenant’s assigned property.

Objects may not extend into:

  • Neighboring rentals.
  • Roads.
  • Sidewalks.
  • Public parks.
  • Community buildings.
  • Waterways.
  • Empty lots.
  • Common areas.
  • Protected landscaping.
  • Other spaces not included with the rental.

Management may return objects that extend beyond the rental boundary without prior notice.

Tenants are responsible for verifying property lines before placing landscaping, fences, buildings, or large decorative items.

15. PRIM AND LAND IMPACT LIMITS

Tenants must remain within the prim or land impact allowance assigned to their rental.

Going over the permitted allowance may result in:

  • A warning.
  • Objects being returned.
  • Additional rental charges.
  • Temporary restrictions.
  • Eviction for repeated violations.

Tenants may not attempt to bypass prim limits by using temporary objects, object rezzers, neighboring parcels, public land, or another tenant’s allowance.

Management may return any object that causes excessive lag, script usage, physics issues, visual obstruction, or performance problems.

16. HOME MODIFICATIONS

Homes and structures provided by Fox Hollow may not be removed, replaced, moved, resized, recolored, or significantly altered without Management approval.

Minor interior decorating is encouraged.

Exterior changes must fit the appearance and setting of Fox Hollow.

Management approval may be required for:

  • Exterior paint changes.
  • Structural additions.
  • Large fences.
  • Pools.
  • Decks.
  • Garages.
  • Sheds.
  • Large signs.
  • Extensive landscaping.
  • Breedable animals.
  • High-script security systems.
  • Seasonal structures.
  • Replacement homes.

Management may require a tenant to remove or change anything that does not fit the property, neighborhood, community theme, or performance requirements.

17. SECURITY SYSTEMS

Security orbs and similar systems must be used responsibly.

Any permitted security system must provide a reasonable warning period before ejecting a person.

Security systems may not:

  • Cover roads or sidewalks.
  • Cover neighboring properties.
  • Eject people from public land.
  • Create excessive spam.
  • Automatically ban residents without cause.
  • Interfere with normal roleplay.
  • Prevent Management from accessing the property when necessary.

Management must be able to enter any Fox Hollow rental for administrative purposes.

18. GUESTS AND HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS

Tenants are responsible for the conduct of their guests, roommates, family members, and anyone regularly using their rental.

Guests must follow the Fox Hollow covenant.

A tenant may be held responsible when they knowingly allow someone to use their property to:

  • Harass residents.
  • Hide from Management.
  • Evade a ban.
  • Create excessive noise or lag.
  • Conduct prohibited activity.
  • Disrupt neighboring rentals.
  • Violate community rules.

Repeated issues involving guests may result in the tenant losing the rental.

19. NOISE, SOUNDS, AND PARTICLES

Sounds, gestures, music, media, particles, and animated objects must remain at a reasonable level.

Residents may not use objects that create:

  • Repetitive or excessive sounds.
  • Loud music across multiple properties.
  • Flashing lights that affect public areas.
  • Excessive particles.
  • Object spam.
  • Chat spam.
  • Script errors.
  • Repeated collision or physics sounds.

Management may return or disable disruptive objects without notice.

20. VEHICLES

Vehicles must be operated responsibly.

Drivers should follow posted road rules and avoid damaging the experience of others.

The following are prohibited:

  • Repeatedly crashing into people, homes, or objects.
  • Blocking roads for extended periods.
  • Abandoning vehicles in public areas.
  • Driving at unreasonable speeds in populated areas.
  • Using oversized vehicles that do not fit the roads.
  • Rezzing excessive numbers of vehicles.
  • Using vehicles to harass or push avatars.
  • Parking on another resident’s property without permission.

Vehicles left abandoned in public areas may be returned without warning.

Emergency vehicles may only use lights and sirens when reasonably connected to roleplay, training, an event, or official department activity.

21. BUSINESSES

Businesses must receive approval before opening within Fox Hollow.

Business owners are responsible for:

  • Keeping posted information accurate.
  • Maintaining an appropriate storefront.
  • Following community operating requirements.
  • Ensuring employees follow the covenant.
  • Avoiding excessive scripted vendors or displays.
  • Keeping all objects within the business property.
  • Participating in the community in good faith.
  • Communicating closures or extended absences to Management.

Businesses may not sell or promote prohibited, stolen, deceptive, hateful, or inappropriate content.

Management may close or reassign a business that is abandoned, inactive, disruptive, or repeatedly non-compliant.

Approval to operate a business does not guarantee permanent ownership of a specific building or location.

22. COMMUNITY JOBS AND DEPARTMENTS

Joining a department or accepting a community position is a commitment to participate respectfully and responsibly.

Department members must follow both the general covenant and any department-specific rules.

Positions may be removed because of:

  • Inactivity.
  • Misuse of authority.
  • Harassment.
  • Favoritism.
  • Unrealistic roleplay.
  • Failure to follow department leadership.
  • Repeated absence without communication.
  • Using a position to target another resident.
  • Sharing private department information.
  • Behavior that reflects poorly on Fox Hollow.

Department authority exists only within reasonable roleplay and community limits.

A department title does not grant authority over Fox Hollow Management or the Owner.

23. EVENTS

Community events should remain welcoming and appropriate for the intended audience.

Event organizers must receive approval before hosting large public events on community land.

Organizers are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate event information.
  • Ensuring decorations remain within approved areas.
  • Avoiding excessive scripts and lag.
  • Cleaning up after the event.
  • Managing guests appropriately.
  • Following music and content restrictions.
  • Communicating major changes or cancellations.

Management may pause or cancel an event that violates the covenant, creates excessive disruption, or places the community at risk.

24. ADVERTISING AND SOLICITATION

Unauthorized advertising is prohibited.

Residents may not:

  • Advertise unrelated communities without permission.
  • Send unsolicited group notices.
  • Spam landmarks, group invitations, or promotional messages.
  • Pressure residents to join outside groups.
  • Beg for Lindens.
  • Request donations without approval.
  • Place signs or advertisements on public land without permission.
  • Use Fox Hollow events primarily to recruit for another community.

Approved resident businesses may advertise through designated Fox Hollow channels.

25. COMMUNITY GROUPS AND DISCORD

Official Fox Hollow groups and Discord channels are extensions of the community.

All covenant expectations apply within these spaces.

Residents may not use official channels for:

  • Public arguments.
  • Personal attacks.
  • Repeated negativity.
  • Callout posts.
  • Harassment.
  • Explicit adult content.
  • Spam.
  • Unapproved advertising.
  • Sharing private conversations without a legitimate reason.
  • Encouraging conflict between residents.
  • Discussing disciplinary matters publicly.

Questions or concerns regarding another resident should be sent privately to Management.

26. REPORTING PROBLEMS

Reports should be submitted privately to Fox Hollow Management.

When possible, include:

  • The names of those involved.
  • The date and approximate time.
  • A clear explanation of what occurred.
  • Screenshots.
  • Chat logs.
  • Relevant messages.
  • The location of the incident.
  • Any attempts made to resolve the issue.

Reports should be factual and should not be exaggerated or altered.

Knowingly submitting false evidence or intentionally misleading Management may result in disciplinary action.

Management will review reports as privately as reasonably possible. However, complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed when information must be reviewed with involved parties.

27. MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATION

Residents must communicate respectfully with Managers and the Owner.

Disagreeing with a decision is permitted. Harassing staff, making threats, spreading false information, or encouraging others to attack Management is not permitted.

Residents may request that a decision be reviewed. A review does not guarantee that the decision will be changed.

Repeatedly contacting multiple staff members in an attempt to receive a different answer may be considered staff shopping and may result in the original decision becoming final.

The Owner has final authority regarding community access, rentals, staffing, roleplay restrictions, and covenant enforcement.

28. WARNINGS AND DISCIPLINARY ACTION

Management may use any of the following actions depending on the seriousness and history of the situation:

  1. Informal reminder.
  2. Written warning.
  3. Roleplay correction.
  4. Removal from a scene.
  5. Return of objects.
  6. Temporary restriction.
  7. Removal from a department or position.
  8. Rental eviction.
  9. Temporary suspension.
  10. Permanent ban.

Disciplinary steps do not have to occur in this exact order.

Severe behavior may result in immediate eviction or banning without a prior warning.

29. ALTERNATE ACCOUNTS AND BAN EVASION

Alternate accounts are permitted when used honestly and responsibly.

Alternate accounts may not be used to:

  • Evade a ban.
  • Avoid disciplinary action.
  • Harass another resident.
  • Secretly gather private information.
  • Manipulate applications or voting.
  • Obtain additional rentals without approval.
  • Pretend to be an unrelated person during a dispute.
  • Continue contact after being blocked or told to stop.

Management may remove all accounts believed to be connected to ban evasion or serious misconduct.

30. MANAGEMENT RIGHTS

Fox Hollow Management and the Owner reserve the right to:

  • Approve or deny rental applications.
  • Repossess abandoned or non-renewing rentals.
  • Return objects that violate property boundaries.
  • Remove objects causing lag or disruption.
  • Require changes to decorations or structures.
  • Approve, limit, pause, or discontinue roleplay scenarios.
  • Remove individuals from departments or businesses.
  • Restrict access to community services.
  • Issue warnings, suspensions, evictions, or bans.
  • Make decisions concerning situations not specifically addressed in this covenant.
  • Update this covenant when necessary.

Management access to a rental does not grant Management ownership of a tenant’s personal objects. Access will be used only when reasonably necessary for inspections, covenant enforcement, property maintenance, rental management, or community safety.

31. COVENANT UPDATES

This covenant may be updated as Fox Hollow grows.

Residents are responsible for reviewing covenant updates and continuing to follow the current version.

Major changes may be announced through the official Fox Hollow group, Discord, website, or other approved communication channels.

Remaining in the community after a covenant update indicates continued acceptance of the updated rules.

32. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

By entering Fox Hollow, renting property, operating a business, joining a department, attending an event, or participating in community roleplay, you acknowledge that:

  • You have read or have been given access to this covenant.
  • You agree to follow the covenant.
  • You understand that violations may result in disciplinary action.
